Frequently Asked Questions
What is #becomingabiblenerd?
Glad you asked! It’s an online community that exists to help you learn how to dig deeper into God’s Word through a weekly podcast that focuses on one Book a semester, one chapter a week. You are encouraged to study the chapter for yourself then tune in to a weekly podcast where we teach the behind the scenes of the culture of the day and hopefully offer insight from the text that will be applicable to your life. During the show we share the resources that we used so you can add that to your library too.
What is a Study Bible?
A Study Bible is an edition of the Bible that also contains commentary, maps, scholarly articles and so much more.
It is designed to help the reader gain a better understanding of the cultural context for the text.
This information is gathered from top scholars in their field. This is man’s interpretation of the text and we should consider this while studying.
What is the best translation to use?
We just want you reading! That is the goal.
When I was in Bible college I had a professor of OT studies who only allowed us to use the NKJV while another professor made us use the NIV.
Get a translation that you can understand. I use the HCSB, NLT, and NIV most frequently. But to each his own!
Ask your pastor or mentor if you need help choosing.
What is a commentary?
A commentary is simply a man-made tool that exists to help deepen our understanding of the Bible by bringing the ancient, Eastern text into context for the modern, Western reader.
Commentaries can be found online, on apps, in books, and in many study Bibles.
Commentaries should always be read as a supplement and never as a replacement for the God-breathed word.
